This is Kurtis Roberts 1998 Formula Extreme championship racer. It is truly my crown jewel. I watched Kurtis crush the completion on this bike in 1998 and even had the pleasure of being lapped by him at the Road America FX round that season. I was always in awe at this bikes ability to charge into a corner and come out with the rear tire smoking and leaving black strips of terror. I pestered Kevin Erion for about 10 years to sell me this bike. It was not easy wrestling this from his hands. It sat in his personal office from the day after it won the championship. Repeated calls, some threats and eventual begging got me the holy grail of AMA Superbike history. I walk by this bike, stop and turn to gawk at its rare beauty. The hand crafted aluminum tank, GP spec Ohlins suspension front and rear, the one off RC45/NSR500 fairing mix. Yea its all there. Pure fucking bad ass SUPERBIKE!. Even when its just sitting there on the stand you can tell it wants to gobble up little children and spit them out in chunks. Its kinda like Spinal Taps Nigel Tufnels guitar, when everything else can only be turned up to 10 this bitch goes right to 11. Undress it and you get to see the raw beauty the HRC/Erion mechanic Rick Hobbs graced this machine with. Everything is has a purpose. If it doesnât then it has been cut off, shaved down or just thrown out. The 41mm down draft Kehien carbs live a pressurized carbon airbox. Lumpy HRC cams, Pankel Titanium rods, Falicon knife edged crank, under cut close ratio transmission all work together to pump out 190 rwhp. I got the chance to ride this beast at Road America a couple years back and all I can say is it is the very best of the best .As many of you know I have ridden and owned a shitload of real factory race bikes but this Erion 900 is by far the most violent, fun and breathtaking of them all. It snorts, shoots flames and rips sick wheelies while somehow sticking like glue in the corners and pulling off the most amazing braking moves that I should not be gotten away with. I totally understand how Roberts was able to just demoralize the competition that year. It is amalgamation of garage know how, exotic parts and precise tuning that has brought this thing to life. The superbikes of today are probably a lot faster, more powerful and surely handle better but this bike was the pinnacle of super biking when it took a real talented rider with huge balls to pull the trigger and get the most from their machine. I have experienced road racing nirvana and it resides in this machine. Thanks Kevin, I will be buried with this bike. Or maybe it may bury me. Either way I will be one happy fella. Life is good. Life is better with this machine in my stable. I will let it go for a billion dollars.
