Oh boy where do you start with such an iconic piece of race pedigree. This is one of my favorite race bikes. It actually started me on collecting factory superbikes about 10 years ago. I was lucky enough to forge a relationship with Kevin Erion around that time. He began to give me access to some of the rarest and most exotic racers to come out of his Southern California HRC race shop. This bike is the magic that Rick Hobbs and HRC turned out after putting their collective resources to work. What we have is Jake Zemkeâs 2003 Honda CBR954RR FX race bike. The motor is a big bore version of the CBR954. It is a 3mm over bore motor(about 1035cc) loaded up with Pankel Titanium rods,HRC crank, total HRC internals, including oil pump, close ratio under cut transmission, slipper clutch, complete ported head with titanium HRC valves and springs. All the spent dinosaur blood is sent flying out a full titanium Erion Racing exhaust (which is actually a HRC part branded with the Erion logo). There is a HRC fuel injection/kit wiring harness running a Total loss ignition through a HRC kit ECU. This is pre traction control days but the bike is so smooth in its delivery of the over 190 rwhp that only the inexperienced rider would miss it. It lays down the sickest long sideways darkies!
On the suspension side of things we have full GP spec Ohlins with magnesium lowers bolted up to set of multi adjustable HRC triple trees. The rear suspension is a mix of HRC billet linkages and GP spec Ohlins shock. Youâll notice that the frame on this 954 has been braced to couple the lower motor mount to the frame. This is specialty modification that HRC engineers collaborated on with Erion to cure the handling issues the big power super bike was having during development. What worked nicely on the base 954 street bike was no match for superbike power and track forces. In any case the suspension is nothing short of perfect. The bike is so easy to ride fast. In the braking department we have massive GP spec Brembo radial endurance billet calipers grabbing trick HRC 310mm rotors. Out back a tiny billet Brembo works another trick HRC rotor. The bike rolls on a mix if 17/16.5 Marchesini 5 spoke magnesium light weight wheels that feature ceramic bearings. Cosmetically its finished off in Erion/HRC livery which is in real nice condition. In all this is a wicked cool piece of history that is fully usable. The motor was just freshened up and I have several spares if you decide to blow this thing up!
Every ride I have had on this monster has resulted in a ear to ear grin! Hop on and experience the joy.
